Built in cabinets

white built in TV cabinetsIt doesn’t matter what kind of cabinet you are looking to get done. Whether it is a new utility cabinet, something for the kitchen to store up all the extra spices in or is one of those gaming cabinets that you would use next to your TV to stock up on your PS3, WII and all the peripherals that come with it, there are certain immutable ideas about cabinet making that might do you some good. Even if you’ve never built a cabinet before, there is a simple way to look at things here. The cabinet is made out a few pieces, namely the carcase which is the outer frame to which everything else that you see in a cabinet is attached. The everything else here being the shelves, the door units, the handles and any other embellishments that tickle your fancy.

buy a built in cabinetThere are various schools of thought out there on whether you should build a cabinet from the ground up or if it is better to order it from somewhere else. For someone like me who isn’t that great with wood and tools off the bat it makes little sense to spend a weekend on fabricating the cabinet and then running around to find the right kind of polish and varnish to finish the job. Now I am sure I would get better with practice but I don’t really enjoy DIY when it comes to wood and on most days I am so tired from my day job that I can hardly muster up the energy to go into the garage and work with saws. I’d much rather spend my free time at home with my fiancée, family and my nephews.

TIP
A common hiccup that people face when they’re out deciding to buy a built in cabinets is the best space to put it in. In my experience as a shopper of many things of the wooden variety pick a piece that suits the space and not the other way round. A built in cabinet works great for closed spaces, as one wall of a corner as well as next to multipurpose rooms like the TV room or even your kitchen.

built in book cabinetsInstead of getting one of the made by a carpenter or getting something bespoke done by some wood work company, you could pick something up from IKEA or the like. If there is some vertical or horizontal space that end up being left between the unit and the walls or the ceilings, you can put it to use or just let it be and allow it to act like a frame for you über utilitarian piece of furniture. So what all can you do with a built-in cabinet once you’ve made your purchase then? You can use it to stock up on the following things:

  • Dry bar in the living room
  • Linenes and bedding
  • Extra clothes
  • Display your best china in the kitchen or next to your dining table
  • DVDs and CDs
  • Store the books in your library the right way

So what I am saying is that you can get a built in cabinet for every room and it’ll hold its own in there giving you amazing storage space for everything but the solution to the problem of the kitchen sink and save you some much needed are around the house as well.
